NEGOTIATING SALARY AND WORK CONTRACTS

- Salary: you can always ask for more than what they offer or advertise. Worse case they say no.
- Ask for moving expenses to be covered if you have to relocate
- Inquire into Signing Bonuses
- Discuss teleworking or work schedule flexibility
- Vacation time, question how much you can get, will it increase over time (lump periods or split?)

Field Advice
- Plan, plan, plan. Consider your funding, permissions, and travel plans. Anything can change at the last minute!
- Prioritize your health. Prepare any mediations or vitamins you may need
- Work with a supportive community
- Develop cultural awareness. Learn to work with diversity of thoughts, opinions and beliefs
- Be resourceful and use local resources. This may help support local communities and build project capacity.
- Consider the stakeholders for your project and how they may be involved
- Ask for help and guides to familiarize yourself with local environment and culture
